We must ask ourselves, what happened to Man? Why is man committing such heinous acts of violence? How did our Country and others get in this condition? How can we end the epidemic of violence?
As a survivor of Child Abuse and Domestic Violence, I firmly believe, we should not be focusing our attention on the acts of violence, and putting new laws in place, although they could help fix the problem temporarily and possibly save lives.
They’re only a band-aid solution to a much bigger problem.
That problem is within us humans; it’s a problem we don’t like to acknowledge or talk about openly. It’s a problem that’s not going to be fixed by any man-made solutions.
Over the years, I have learned one valuable lesson in life.
That being, our past actions hold the answers to the what, why and how come questions we must ask ourselves to move forward in life. We can’t move forward in life when we still carrying around the baggage of past generations.
When we reflect back over past generations, we will find out what happen, why these acts of violence are occurring, and why our Country and others are in this condition. And more importantly, what the real solution is to end this epidemic of violence.
A Journey Back Over Past Generations
I began a journey caring for people by taking a six-month course at the Edward Shands Adult School in Pleasant Valley, California back in 1992. And for the last twenty-three years, I have had the privilege of caring for a past generation of people who had upstanding moral values and strong work ethics.
Now in their seventies and eighties, these men and woman were the moral fiber and backbone of our country.
A Generation of People with Moral Values and Backbone
They grew up during the time of the Great Depression, and some went on to fight World War II (Greatest Generation on Wikipedia ).
They lived during periods of great struggle and endured several hardships throughout their life, and rarely give up easily. This generation of people had upstanding moral values, and many were Christians who lived by the Word of God.
They valued the freedoms and liberties that our country was built on. The American flag stood for something, and they believed that God did indeed shed his grace on them. And they were willing to die in battle to uphold those freedoms and liberties.
They were a generation of people who lived with integrity. A handshake meant you had their word. The last name was held in high regard and was guarded by a person’s actions.
Their work ethics were outstanding, and most of them would never take something from anyone. In their day, it was a disgrace to sign up for unemployment insurance or go for a welfare handout.
There were many people of this generation, who as patients would try to tip me for helping them. They wanted to and often even insisted on paying their way in life. And even when you kindly declined their offer, they would stuff the money in your pocket when you weren’t looking. That money usually went into a coffee fund for all staff members.
The children of this generation were no strangers to hard work or obedience. Children were expected to help around the house with chores, and some held a job to earn money.
Children would walk to school, sometimes for miles, and they obeyed their parents. During their children’s formative years, television was just beginning to emerge as the entertainment powerhouse it has become over the years.
In their children’s day, Hollywood entertainers displayed moral values and standards on the movie screen. Husbands and wives slept in separate beds and nudity were not allowed on television. God was allowed in public places, and children were exposed to and read the Word of God in school.
In their generation, a man worked very hard to provide for his loved ones, and he protected them to the best of his ability. It was uncommon to hear of a man killing his wife. Uncommon to hear of parents sexually abuse or killing their children.
In their generation, a woman showed her love, appreciation, and respect for her husband by supporting his efforts to provide for his family. She didn’t try to exceed his efforts or belittle him for them. Most women stayed at home to care for and nurture their family. She was the helper and mate God intended her to be.
They stood side by side, together and supported one another in love. The bonds of marriage held special meaning, and words of commitment to one another were kept. Not all, but many marriages from this generation lasted a lifetime.
I have witnessed a few husbands and wives who have died within a few hours or days of one another. And one lady passed away shortly after her wedding ring was cut off her finger. She wasn’t severely ill and didn’t want the ring removed. It meant something very special to her.
This generation is the backbone of smaller communities.
Many of these people are still working today at the age of 70 plus. They’re working to better their communities and helping others is in their blood.
In our small community, you will find them running a local thrift store, involved in not-for-profit organizations to better their communities, volunteering on the ambulance squad and involved in church functions.
They are a dying breed, and the generations after them are not entirely prepared to walk in their shoes or willing to take their place.
I cared for one guy, who in his younger years, had a family to support and his car broke down. He walked over twenty miles one way to work and back again “in the winter” to provide for them.
Ask a man to do that today and wait for his response. I almost guarantee you that he would call into work sick or worse yet, quit his job entirely.
The generations after them lack the backbone, work ethics, moral standards and Godly values this generation has developed over the years.
Not all, but most.
As each generation passes by, we are slowly, but surely going our way in life. We are moving further away from God, and we no longer want God to be the supreme ruler of our lives.
We are closing the church doors in our communities and turning our backs on God completely. What we fail to understand is that without God in our life, death and destruction will surely follow us. And now that it is, we are seeking to fix our problems with man-made solutions.
A Generation That Moved Far, Far Away from God
I believe, the people who are now in their late forties and fifties (my generation) has witnessed and been partakers of the greatest moving away from God in our nation’s history.
My generation has seen the rise of the Hollywood, Music and Pornography entertainment industries. In their rise, these industries have moved away from producing wholesome family entertainment for providing immoral content. And over the years, our mind and spirit have been bombarded with and corrupted by images of sexuality, rape, horror, murder, drugs, violence, and other atrocities.
The older generations would never even talk about such things in public. Let alone watch these images for entertainment purposes.
I remember back in the late 70’s, and early 80’s when Heavy Metal Music was very popular with teenagers. Christians voiced their opinions, disapproved of the “explicit lyrics”, and thought the music contained subliminal messages. They fought to warn parents, to save the children and tried to stop the production of this devil worshiping music. Maybe the Christians were right.

This generation has continued on their path in life.
They continued to watch immoral storylines on the big screen, and listen to music with ungodly lyrics (not music to praise the Lord and edify the spirit) and partook in drugs and alcohol to make themselves feel good.
This generation has seen the greatest increase in the daily usage of drugs and alcohol. Many children of this generation have become addicted and enslaved to drugs and alcohol for years. Many others have overdosed and died as well.
The prisons were overrun with people who were caught dealing or possessing drugs during the “lock them up” drug era. They have become crowded with people from this generation who have committed heinous acts of murder, rape, and other atrocities.
Hum, I wonder why?
Over the generations, we have rebelled against God and moved far away from his proper way of living. We have failed to obey his Word and Godly way for raising our families and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
The mind and spirit of man have been increasingly filled with and polluted by ungodly thoughts, evil imaginations and wicked acts of violence. We can’t put this stuff in our mind and spirit, and not expect it to come back out in some format or another.
It just doesn’t work that way!
I often wonder:
Has God given us over to a reprobate mind?
Is this why we have such a great need for Mental Health counseling?
Has our mind been completely corrupted by what we have put into it over the years?
Has the darkness taken over?
The song “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC comes to mind now.
Are we on the highway to hell?
We have given the devil a wide path to travel on in our daily lives. And he is roaming about, seeking to rob, kill, steal, destroy and devour any and all people that are in his path.
That is his nature.
His task is to keep you from God.
The family units of this generation have been broken down.
The family units have become shattered, and the bonds of marriage no longer hold that special meaning “till death do us part.” We break those bonds on a whim or at the first sight of problems. And many people of this generation, including myself, just live together without being married in the eyes of God and have children out of wedlock.
God didn’t intend for man to live this way and it was taboo to past generations. In their day, if you got a woman pregnant, you were expected to marry her, and no-fault divorces were not permitted until 1969 when then Governor Ronald Reagan of California signed the nation’s first no-fault divorce bill. The Divorce Rate has more than doubled between 1950 and 1990 breaking family units down even further.

Child Abuse, Child Sexual Abuse, and Domestic Violence became an epidemic in our Country.
This generation has witnessed the greatest rise of child abuse, child sexual abuse, and domestic violence within the home. And growing up in this environment has lasting effects on your mind, spirit and adult life.
I know, I’ve lived with the consequences for over twenty years.
According to Child Help.org, “Every year, more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States. And in 2012, state agencies found an estimated 686,000 victims of child mistreatment.”

Men are no longer honoring and cherishing their wives and children. And many find it difficult to provide for their families. Instead, some commit adultery hit their wives and children and sexually abuse their children. Others commit heinous acts of violence and murder too.
Women are no longer showing their love, appreciation and respect for their husbands by supporting his efforts to provide for his family. Instead, they are seeking to be independent of man, better themselves in the workforce and often they are doing better than men. God intended Woman to be a helper and mate for man.
Did The Devil Turn The Tables Upside Down?
The tables are turned upside down, and we are no longer following God’s way for us to live. Our morals, values, and standards of Godly living and family units were severely degraded over the generations.
We are not living as God intended us to live.
The consequences of our personal choices and actions are clearly being seen in the fact that we are witnessing such heinous acts of violence and enduring numerous atrocities today. And the generations that come after us are moving further away from God. Thus, we can “expect” to see a larger falling away from God and a “bigger increase” in immoral values and inhumane treatment.
Removing God and His Word
When you remove God and his Word from your life, you will no longer have the light of Christ to shine in the darkness where sin abounds.[Tweet “When you remove God and his Word from your life, you no longer have the light of Christ”]
The light of Christ is what brings people hope, love, compassion and God’s saving grace. Without the light of Christ to direct your path, the only thing you will see before you is utter darkness.
Without the light of Christ to rescue you from this darkness, the only thing you will have to cling onto is the devil, for he is the ruler of the darkness. And in this darkness is pain and suffering.
When a person becomes lost in the darkness, their spirit is weighed down with the heavy burdens of sin. Overburden, with sin, they are unable to pick themselves back up by any man-made efforts.
The path they travel on is the broad way and destruction will be their end. People who become lost in the darkness can be proud or haughty, they cling to sinful ways of being in life, are blind to the truth and resistant to change.
Don’t you see!
The Bigger Problem Is Us
We have chosen to turn away from God, and his standards for moral living. We were raising our children without the Word of God and these children don’t have a solid foundation in Christ for living correctly. And now we are only reaping what we have sown into our mind and spirit for generations.
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7 KJV
When we don’t follow God and obey his Word, we will continue to stumble and fall away in a dysfunctional world that’s filled with darkness, corruption, murder, violence, destruction and death.
The Only Answer to Our Problems
The healing light of Christ shines from above, with love, to show you the narrow way out of this darkness. The Lord is Calling you to follow him.
This healing light of Christ is the answer you are seeking and only solution to our problems. So come to the Lord those of you who are humble and meek.
Walk forth by faith and embrace the Lord’s gift of eternal salvation.
He died on the cross to rescue you from this darkness. Be open to genuine spiritual change and renew your mind in God’s word. Then, and only then will this darkness flee from you and the light of Christ shall remain to ease your pain and suffering.
His burden is light, and he will never forsake you.
The Lord, Jesus Christ, is “the only way” to heal a man, end the violence, fix our problems and our only way out of the darkness.
